THE FLYING DUTCHMAN OFF-ROAD RACING TEAM

Antelope Valley Fairgrounds
Round 1 & 2

Friday - As I was qualifying for round 1, I rounded the last corner of the first lap and put the truck up on one wheel. I nearly rolled over, but made a great save. I finished the qualifying round, but the time was only good enough for 6th position.

After qualifying, Mark Hansen from Vehicle Dymanix came over to make some adjustments to the race truck.

Saturday - The green flag fell, and with the lamaze style start, the season began. Rounding corner 1, Rick Johnson spins out in the Baldwin truck as a result of contact with another vehicle. As I was racing past him, I was sandwiched between the spun race truck and the other truck. Contact was made resulting in a tore rear axle, damaged rear shocks, trailing arms and drive shaft. Jason at Tube Works took the rear end to his shop to straighten for the next round of racing on Sunday. My crew pulled an all-night repair session on the truck.

Sunday - 14 trucks took the green flag in round 2. Within three laps I moved from ninth in the lineup to fourth place. After a full course yellow flag on lap 8, the racing resumed. It took 6 more laps of battle to secure the fourth spot before the checkered flag waved.
Race 2 Sunday was the pro 2 event of the Jason Baldwin Memorial Cup qualifying race. Pro 2 and pro 4 trucks race for points separately, accumulating at each event. At the season finale, the two classes will race together for a winner take all $66,000.
The green flag dropped and by lap 8 I had worked into 5th spot, but shortly after the mandatory yellow flag lap, the power steering belt broke, forcing me to the sidelines.

A special thanks goes out to Jason at Tubeworks, Mark Hansen of Vehicle Dynamix, Jeremy Meyer and Kevin Dinwiddie from Amsoil. Kevin gave the team a wealth of knowledge, providing technical support for the our testing efforts a few days prior to the event.

The next CORR race will be in Pomona, CA., on May 19-20. The first event of the World Series of Off-Road (WSORR) will be on the same weekend. Dan Jr. in his Amsoil/Kumho Nissan Frontier Pro-Lite and Mike in his Light Buggy will be carrying the Flying Dutchman Off-Road colors in Owatonna, MN.

Always Racing,
The Flying Dutchman
